A Horse to Bet On

Can I just say that the people at Dark Horse Comics are the best? I'm writing an essay for a book on manga in the U.S., and I put out an inquiry to DH on Monday. Within minutes, I get a response from the PR dept and then today I wrote to an editor there who phoned me within minutes of receiving my e-mail. I was terrified that he wanted to conduct the interview then and there, but thankfully we set up one for next Monday. I would have done it this week, but I'm meeting with students all day, everyday until then (why do I even assign a research paper when Wikipedia is around?). So, I'm super psyched.

Also received good news that my abstract was accepted to K'zoo next year. Looks like two trips in the Spring -- on to PCA in San Fran and then the great state of Michigan in May. Woohoo. I'm hoping a wombat will be my roommate? (There's the title of my memoirs!)

You betcha! Hoorah! Glad you got in -- it's always a tense time waiting to hear. I was lucky this year: I sponsored a panel through PCA so I'm not even giving a paper, just hosting (unlike last year -- eek, two was too much).

I think I'll fly to Detroit from here. We'll just aim to arrive there about the same time.

Yay! A couple of the folks on my panel are first-timers so we can show them the ropes (yes, you must dance!).

Cool about the good response from DH. They know they cannot refuse Sailor Wendy!

Oh, that is good news all around! Congrats, Wendy!

Dark Horse Comics are the best anyway!

Yay on your luck with Dark Horse! I haven't had to deal with them in the past, but I'm pretty sure CH has. I've never heard a bad word about them.

Always good to learn about a publisher who's cool about helping out scholarship / research. How can it help but help bring attention to them, and thus increase visibility, readership, and sales?

And yay on Kazoo also! Even tho I'm just a recovering medievalist, I still miss it...
